Senior Technical Designer

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Principal Technical Designer, the Senior Technical Designer is responsible for implementing, iterating, and documenting the assets, scripts, pipelines, and workflows used by the Design Team in order to author gameplay and content. In this role, you will work closely with the Principal Technical Designer, Level Designers and Engineers to create a robust and extensible framework that enables Designers of all levels to produce rich and compelling content in a reliable and performant way.  

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in technical scripting, problem-solving, content optimization, tools workflows, and documentation. They will also have a strong team-oriented mindset, and the ability to succeed in a highly collaborative and iterative environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, implement, and maintain fundamental content-authoring "building blocks" such as Triggers, Spawners, and Interactable Objects

  • Audit content-creation workflows, and propose/develop utilities and improvements where needed

  • Translate content & gameplay Design concepts into technical specs/documentation for Engineers

  • Work closely with Engineers to develop, regress, and maintain core game systems & features

  • Define and document Designer content-creation and scripting standards; assist Designers in meeting these standards

  • Serve as the communication channel between, and advocate for, Design and Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previously shipped at least one title in a Technical Design role

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Open World and/or Role-Playing game authoring fundamentals

  • A passion for influencing how games are constructed, and empowering other developers

  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to feedback, design, and scope changes throughout development  

  • Strong communication, technical writing, and documentation skills  

  • Strong, independent problem-solving and time-management skills

  • The ability to explain complex topics to non-technical teammates  

  • Knowledge of current industry trends with regards to game content, systems, and loops

  • Experience with Unreal Engine

  • Extensive experience with scripting and/or visual scripting languages (Blueprints, C++, C#, etc)
