Senior and Mid-Level Software Engineers

For over 16 years, Aspyr Media has worked on the biggest titles in the video game industry. Our engineers have worked on Sid Meier's Civilization, Activision's Call of Duty, Lucas's Star Wars, and directly with developers at both id Software and Gearbox Software. We have an exciting roadmap over the next 24 months that includes many unannounced titles.

We currently have openings for both a mid-level and senior software engineer in the Austin area. While the process is fundamentally porting, the technical challenges presented by bringing AAA games to OS X are not that much different than the tasks of a systems engineer doing original development. In addition to porting, Aspyr is developing both original iOS IP and iOS companion apps that integrate with our desktop games.

Desired Skills & Experience

Required Skills:

  • A passion for quality
  • Experience with OS X or iOS.
  • Expert level understanding of C/C++
  • Proven experience with large codebases
  • 4+ years of programming experience in the game industry

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience with console hardware
  • Graphics knowledge, especially OpenGL, Direct3D, HLSL, GLSL

Producer

Aspyr Media, Inc. got its start in Austin, TX by bringing the biggest PC gamingfranchises such as Call of Duty, Sid Meier’s Civilization and Star Wars to Mac.

Aspyr Media is looking for an enthusiastic and highly organized Producer with demonstrable project management experience to take on a production role in building our upcoming projects. A successful Producer works in support of the development team to coordinate, track, and guide activities of game features to ensure timely completion to quality.

Desired Skills & Experience

Priorities:

  • Ensures that games ship on time and meet quality targets
  • Ensures that the Engineering Services and Production Services resources and tasks are aligned 
    and optimized to meet project and company goals
  • Works with the Business Development teams on product discovery and proposals.
  • Leads and manages Testing and Production Services team to be the best in the industry

Essential Duties:

  • Partner with production and discipline leads to determine resources necessary to complete projects and meet milestones and deadlines.
  • Drive project and discipline deliverables to completion within tight schedules and high standards of quality utilizing project management tools, production methodologies, and leadership abilities
  • Oversee, coordinate, track and manage the activities of the team to ensure that project goals are completed on time
  • Identify and fix bottlenecks, as well as clearing roadblocks both on the day-to-day and in the longer term
  • Provide motivation, direction, and improve best practices

Competencies, Skills & Knowledge:

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively as a mediator between all development disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to self-prioritize and execute with minimal supervision, while also leading by example
  • Ability to manage schedules and requirements to implement desired features
  • Knowledge about the game development process and industry trends at large

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of game development experience in an internal development Production role
  • Experience shipping one or more major AAA console titles as a credited producer
  • Development discipline-specific history (art, engineering, design, QA)
  • A demonstrated understanding of various production methodologies is required
  • Agile or similar methodology background
  • Will consider candidates with previous experience as internal Development Directors or Project Managers
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
